A Kerbala University Lecturer in the College of Medicine Receives Patent

Prof. Dr. Ali Abdul-Hussain Al-Janabi, a lecturer in the college of medicine, received patent from the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control in the Ministry of Planning (No. 5327).

The patent was titled ‘The Preparation of Ointments which contain Amphotericin B and Clotrimazole to Eliminate Buildup of Candida Albicans Yeast in the Mouth which Causes Mouth Infection Related to Denture Stomatitis’.

The patent included the discovery of the effectiveness of two antifungal drugs that can be used to eliminate the Biofilm of the Candida Albicans yeast buildup on dentures which is well known to initiate mouth infection. Furthermore, the researcher studied the chemical and physical properties of the drugs as well as the optimum condition for their stability, concentration, and effectiveness in the mouth during the chewing of food. The results show that the ointments are 100% effective in inhibiting Candida Albicans yeast buildup on dentures. In addition, the ointments retained their chemical and physical properties in different conditions as well as the drugs proved to be impervious to bacterial infection.
