Kerbala University Conducts a Conference to Develop the Agricultural Sector and Reinforce Food Security

The College of Agriculture in Kerbala University conducted a scientific conference about the importance of scientific research in the development of the agricultural sector and food security. 160 researchers from various Iraqi universities participated in the conference.
The conference, which was held under the slogan ‘Agricultural Scientific Research: The Gate of Prosperity for Nations and the Way to Achieve Food Security’, aims at diagnosing the problems facing the field of agriculture in Iraq, finding scientific and practical solutions, discussing the new techniques used by developed nations to improve the agricultural sector, and highlighting the importance of developing the agricultural sector for its significance in the economy and food security.

The dean of the College of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Ahmad Ibrehi said that the conference aims at activating fruitful collaborations and encouraging the exchange of academic expertise to improve the scientific research so that it can aid in the development of the economy in the country and the improvement of the agricultural sector. The dean also said that the conference dealt with the diverse techniques that can be used to develop the agricultural sector, the latest research in the field, as well as the latest strategies and programs that can help in the reinforcement of food security.

In addition, the dean emphasized that the importance of presenting the results of modern studies and the latest scientific experiments.

The conference discussed many subjects including crops, soil, water resources, animal production, food production, plants and fields’ protection, biofuel, water plantation, and the latest pesticides.

The researchers at the conference voiced the importance of implementing reliable procedures to develop agricultural production via using the latest techniques to insure food security, as well as protect animal and agricultural resources to reinforce the economy of Iraq and get acquainted with international universities and research centers.

The researchers also emphasized the need to invite specialized international companies to participate in the scientific activities. Furthermore, they stated that there are numerous chances for investment in the agricultural sector that requires continuous meetings and workshops between universities and investment organizations.
