University of Kerbala Organizes its First Conference on Al-Marja’iyya’s (Religious Authority) Role in Maintaining Social Peace

College of Education for Humanities, University of Kerbala organizes its the first National Scientific Conference on Religious Authority (Marja’iyya) and Social Peace, in cooperation with Karbala Center for Studies and Research_Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein. The conference included a wide participation of researchers from various Iraqi universities.

The President of the University, Prof. Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali, states that religious authority has historically played a crucial role in preserving social order, bridging differences, and safeguarding the unity of social fabric.

He adds that contemporary challenges necessitate drawing inspiration from this historical role of religious authority and utilizing it to build societal awareness.

Head of Karbala Provincial Council, Dr. Qasim Al-Yassari, points out that religious authority remains a safeguard for preserving social fabric and maintaining national unity. He explains that society, by its very nature, is keen to adhere to religious authorities’ directives who participate actively in achieving peace.

For his part, Dean of the College, Dr. Hadi Al-Saidi, says that religious authority (Marja’iyya) has a crucial role in achieving security and peace, noting that (Marja’iyya) keeps on its active role locally and internationally.

To avoid crises and strengthen spirit of coexistence, Director of Karbala Center for Studies and Research, Abdul Ameer Al-Quraishi, ends up the conference reviewing the pivotal role of religious authority in issuing religious guidance and peace.

University of Kerbala Holds a Scientific Workshop on Family Disintegration and its Relationship to Suicide

College of Science, University of Kerbala organizes a workshop which addresses the relationship between family breakdown and suicide.
To enhance students’ psychological and social awareness, it has been presented by Dr. Alaa Farak Hussein and Dr. Ehsan Mahdi Shahid. It deals with family’s breakdown causes and its impact on mental health, particularly among young people.
The workshop also highlights the link between weakened family ties, increased psychological stress and risky behaviours. It discusses the importance of family support in building a balanced personality, the role of educational institutions in providing guidance and awareness, and proposed solutions to mitigate this phenomenon.
The workshop ends up with emphasizing the need for integrated efforts between families, educational institutions, and the community to promote mental health and reduce family breakdown.

University of Kerbala publishes a Joint Scientific Research on Reducing Drug Toxicity

A team research from College of Pharmacy, University of Kerbala published a study entitled “Herbal Extract Diminishes Diclofenac-Induced Nephrotoxicity”.
The paper has been coauthored by Etab Abdul-Ameer AL-Ogla_ Department of clinical laboratory sciences, College of pharmacy, University of Kerbala Huda N. AL-baroody_ College of Applied Medical Sciences, University of Kerbala, Mohanad Yahya Al-Mhanna, Department of physiology, Faculty of medicine, University of Kerbala and Hadeel Khalaf Alboaklah, Department of clinical laboratory sciences, College of pharmacy, University of Kerbala.
It focuses on effectiveness of artemisinin, a compound extracted from a specific type of plant, and its impact on reducing kidney and liver damage associated with repeated use of the drug.
It is concluded that nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are among the most commonly prescribed medications worldwide, including in Thailand, for the treatment of pain and inflammatory conditions such as osteoarthritis[12],[13].However, it has remarkable adverse properties [14].The renal toxicity of the effect of Diclofenac was earlier confirmed in varied investigational models using together in vitroandin vivoexamination [15]in a rat model [16]and mice model.Artemisinin is a selective medical plant usedto treat Rheumatoid arthritis [17].This study aimed to combine Artemisinin and Diclofenac as a new strategy to obtain better results without side effects. This study’s histological results corresponded to the biochemical and hematological outcomes. Comparative to the standard control group, there was a significant (p < .05) intensification in platelet count in the DFC control group (Table 2), Which agreed with [18]but disagreed with others [19].However, a significant reduction was documented in groups 3 and 4 ( (Table 2).This set of data arguments diclofenac as a possible stimulator of renal failure and hepatotoxicity increases concern about the ecological influence of DFC consumption despite its medical efficiency. It is also remarkable to the declaration that DFC is associated with a chain of not simple side effects apart from renal and hepatic injury. College of Education Holds a Scientific Symposium entitled”the Impact of Domestic Violence on Impeding Development Indicators (Education and Health)

Discussing certain common issues, Department of Geography, College of Education for Humanities, organizes a scientific symposium which is entitled “Domestic Violence and its Impact on Impeding Development Indicators (Education and Health).” The symposium has been delivered by Dr. Mahmoud Qahtan Mubdir, Dr. Mustafa Makki Jawad, Dr. Wissam Saad Hassan, and Dr. Haider Mohammed Zughair.

It addresses several key themes, including defining the concept of domestic violence and its various forms, highlighting relationship between domestic violence and human development, analyzing its impact on individuals’ educational attainment, and outlining its negative repercussions on physical and mental health.
This symposium achieves Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3, which focuses on good health and well-being; Goal 4, which emphasizes quality education; and Goal 5, which aims to promote gender equality and reduce all forms of violence against women. Reducing domestic violence is a key step towards promoting a healthy and sound educational environment, which contributes to achieve sustainable and inclusive human development.

College of Pharmacy / University of Kerbala Occupied the First position in the Sixth Student Scientific Conference _ Al-Kafeel University

College of Pharmacy _ University of Kerbala participates in the Sixth Student Scientific Conference, which has been organized by Al-Kafeel University as part of the Second University Sustainability Week.

Researchers from University of Kerbala Publish a Study in an International Journal

Being classified as a promising treatment for psoriasis, a research team has published a paper which is entitled “ Topical Astaxanthin Attenuates Imiquimod-Induced Psoriasiform Dermatitis by Downregulating Psoriasis-Associated Keratin Gene Expression (Krt16, Krt17, Krt6a) and Inhibiting the JAK-STAT Signaling Pathway” in Molecules 2026, 31(7), 1191 which classified within internatinal classification.

The study demonstrates that topical astaxanthin (AST) effectively attenuates imiquimod-induced psoriasiform dermatitis through a coordinated multi-mechanistic mode of action. AST suppressed key inflammatory mediators of the IL-23/IL-17 axis, restored oxidative balance by reducing NADPH oxidase activity and lipid peroxidation while enhancing endogenous antioxidant defenses, and inhibited JAK–STAT signaling, leading to downregulation of psoriasis-associated keratin genes and normalization of epidermal architecture. These molecular and biochemical improvements were strongly supported by marked histopathological recovery. Notably, high-dose AST exhibited therapeutic efficacy comparable to or exceeding that of clobetasol, suggesting its potential as a safer non-steroidal topical alternative. Collectively, these findings highlight astaxanthin as a promising antioxidant-based therapeutic candidate for psoriasis management and warrant further clinical validation.

President of Univerity of Kerbala Honors a Professor for Publishing in an International Research in Energy and Artificial Intelligence

Publishing a research in an international journal ranked in Scopus database (Q1) , President of the University Prof. Dr.Sabah Wajid appreciates the efforts made by Dr. Hawraa Hassan Abbas, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, College of Engineering, whom published a paper entitled “ “AI-driven forecasting of the world energy index: The role of Iraq’s GDP in global energy interconnection”. This study employs mathematical-based artificial intelligence models to forecast the World Energy Index (WEI) using nine parameters, including Iraq’s GDP. The findings offer valuable insights for policymakers and investors to make informed decisions in energy markets. Mathematical-based artificial intelligence (AI) models that rely on extensive data have demonstrated significant promise in utilizing enormous datasets and capturing intricate correlations for the goal of making predictions.
The journal is entitled “Global Energy Interconnection”, is classified within Scopus database, Impact Factor :2.6. The President states that this achievement reflects advanced scientific level attained by the academic staff, particularly in vital fields related to energy and modern technologies.
For her part, Dr. Hawraa Hassan Abbas expresses her gratitude, stressing that institutional support is an important incentive to continue providing more scientific achievements that contribute to serve the community.
