University of Kerbala has achieved eighth place locally in UI GreenMetric World University Rankings among 1,183 universities around the world from 85 foreign and Arab countries.<\/span>
\nThe classification includes basic standards for university infrastructure, energy, addressing climate change, water, waste treatment, and transportation, as well as scientific research related to sustainability.<\/span><\/p>\n

Director of Scientific Affairs at the University, Dr. Fadhil Nour El-Din, says that this classification evaluates universities in terms of applying environmental sustainability standards. It is launched in 2010 and includes 6 basic standards and 39 sub-indicators, noting that 74 Iraqi universities participate in this classification, and University of Kerbala achieves eighth place after Babylon, Anbar, Al-Mustaqbal, Baghdad, the Middle Euphrates, Basra, and Al-Mustansiriya Universities<\/span>
\nDr. Nour El-Din explains that this achievement is attained through great efforts exerted by presidency in recent years to develop infrastructure, especially in field of increasing green spaces, planting trees and extending water canals around the University campus, as well as creating a number of lakes, in addition to move towards renewable energy, reducing consumption and other measures.<\/span>
\nHe adds University of Kerbala has outperformed many well-known Arab and international universities such as Abu Dhabi University, University of Dubai in the Emirates, and King Khalid University, King Saud bin Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia. It has also outperformed many international universities such as German Hochschule Weihenstephan-triesdorf and other universities in Asia and America.<\/span>
\nIt is mentioned that Dutch Wageningen University & Research has ranked first position, British Nottingham Trent University occupies the second , and German Trier University of Applied Sciences ranked the third.<\/span><\/p>\n
