University of Kerbala Discussing an M.A Thesis entitled Molecular Characterization of Coliform Bacteria isolated from Urinary Tract Infections and River Water

College of Science, University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A thesis which is entitled “Molecular Characterization of Coliform Bacteria isolated from Urinary Tract Infections and River Water”.
Being submitted by Asia Jawad Kareem, Department of Biology the study aims at Investigating resistance of aforementioned bacteria to antibiotics, and genes responsible for this resistance, in addition to evaluate their ability to produce biofilms and impact of all of this on the environment and humans as well.
The study includes collecting samples from children with urinary tract infections and others from river water, to detect resistance of bacteria to antibiotics and resistance genes, revealing that certain types of E. coli are the cause of urinary tract infections. The study recommends the need to use advanced molecular techniques in examination and treatment, in addition to the importance of adopting bacterial indicators to determine the main source of pollution, with expanding scope of research to include other water bodies to understand spread of bacteria more widely.
