Karbala University has hosted the second meeting of the committee to determine the seismic safety labs for establishments in the city of Karbala, and the problem is chaired by the Governor of Karbala, Engineer Nassif Al-Khattabi, and the membership of both Professor Dr. Najm Abdul Hussain Najem, Assistant Head of Scientific Affairs and the teacher Dr. Hussein Jawad Ahmed Al-Manqoushi , Jassem Al-Khafaji, Dr. Sajjad Amer Hamza, Dr. Ali Ghanem Abbas from the University of Kerbala and Professor Haider Al-Nasrawi from the Governor’s Office,
The assistant president of the university for scientific affairs and member of the committee, Prof. Dr. Najem Abdel Hussein Najem, says, a mechanism has been discussed to conduct engineering designs with high resistance to earthquakes for old structures, especially multi-storey buildings in the holy city of Karbala and work to neutralize seismic safety laboratories for newly constructed facilities in accordance with Iraqi engineering standards and specifications. This is a prerequisite for the implementation of those buildings in the province. Iraq and the surrounding area have witnessed frequent earthquakes that may lead to a great risk to the citizen;
He explains that the meeting aims at reducing the risks to which the citizen is exposed as a result of the designs of the facilities set up without the required specifications in the buildings and structures built in the province.
