A cooperative research team from the University of Kerbala and the University of the Middle Euphrates has obtained a patent from the Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control. This award is to enable them to invent a smart balloon gate used to control water levels.
The research team consists of Dr. Farhan Lafta Rashid, Dr. Ali Abdul Razzaq Abbas Al-Taher from the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Arkan Radi Ali, and Dr. Najah Mahdi Latif from the University of the Middle Euphrates Engineering,
The patent aims at using a smart balloon gate to control the water level in rivers and canals, as well as to address part of the problem of supplying electric energy by relying on one of the types of renewable energies widely available in Iraq,
The patent clarifies the possibility of contributing to addressthe problem of water scarcity in a number of Iraqi regions, which may be far from the services of the electricity network.
