Prof. Dr. Waqed Hammed Hassan, Faculty of Engineering – Civil Engineering Department \ University of Kerbala, in cooperation with a research team from University of Kerbala, Faculty of Engineering \ Al-Mustansiriya University and University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa, published a scientific research in international journal Physics and Chemistry of the Earth affiliated to the international publishing house Elsevier which is entitled” Projections of precipitation and temperature in Southern Iraq using a LARS-WG Stochastic weather generator”.
The study aimed at developing a simulation model of predicting expected changes in temperature and rainfall in southern Iraq region for three future time periods, using five global models with the global weather generator program. The research focused on the use of latest adopted global scenarios in the rate of production of emissions gases that cause climate change.
The conclusions indicated an expected increase in temperatures with a slight decrease in the average amount of rain during the studied future periods of six governorates located in southern Iraq.
It is noteworthy that the journal in which the research paper published is considered one of the first in world ranking Q1 and has an impact factor of 2.712 in WOS journals of Clarivate classification and an impact factor of 5.4 in Scopus classifications.
