A Lecturer from University of Kerbala Publishes a Scientific Study in an International Medical Journal

Being indexed in Scopus, Dr. Waleed Khalid Younis, College of Pharmacy, University of Kerbala, publishes a scientific paper which is entitled “The Role of Exosomes in Brain Tumors: Mechanisms, Diagnosis, and Therapeutic Prospects,” published in Iranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences (IJBMS). It states that cancer remains a leading cause of mortality worldwide, with metastases significantly impacting patient prognosis. Brain metastases (BM) and primary malignant gliomas, such as glioblastoma (GBM), are among the most aggressive forms, with survival rates often below 12 months. GBM alone accounts for 2.5% of cancer-related deaths globally and is a leading cause of mortality in young adults aged 15–34. One of the major challenges in treating brain tumors is the blood-brain barrier (BBB), which limits the delivery of therapeutic agents to the central nervous system (CNS).

The team of the study includes Dr. Haider Falih Shamikh Al-Saed, University of Al-Ameed -College of Pharmacy, Kerbala; Dr. Waleed Khalid Younis Al-Bahadli, University of Kerbala -College of Pharmacy, Kerbala; Dr. Waleed Murih Hatab,University of Kerbala -College of Dentistry, Kerbala and Dr. Arash Abdolmaleki, Department of Biophysics, Faculty of Advanced Technologies, University of Mohaghegh Ardabili, Namin, Iran.

It is worth mentioning that the current paper is considered an important scientific achievement in fields of biotechnology and cancer and opens up future research prospects to develop innovative diagnostic and therapeutic methods.
