Dr. Ghassan Al-Maamouri, College of Law – University of Kerbala, translated a book which is entitled “Organic Law 3/2018, of December 5, on Personal Data Protection and guarantee of digital rights- Kingdom of Spain.”
Availability of such book is of importance for Arab researchers in general, and Iraqis in particular, for topics related to legal studies.
The book discusses Organic Law 3/2018 as one of the most prominent European laws in data protection. It enshrines principle of fundamental right of natural persons to control their personal data, provides legal frameworks so as to address challenges imposed by globalization and modern digital technology, and complements European General Data Protection Regulation No. 679 of 2016 (GDPR). It aims at enhancing transparency, privacy, and legal certainty in data handling.
The translated law includes 97 legal articles, in addition to sixteen special provisions amending other legislative texts to align them with new European requirements.
In the same token, it is worth noting that Dr. Al-Maamouri previously translated Iraqi Nationality Law No. 26 of 2006, which is in force, and Foreign Investment Law in Iraq No. 13 of 2006, as amended, into Spanish. This contributes to familiarize Spanish-speaking citizens and investors with Iraqi Nationality Law and Foreign Investment Law, particularly by informing foreign investors of opportunities and guarantees included in this law.
