Faculty of Engineering / University of Kerbala has investigated the M.A. thesis which is entitled Best Power Flow for National SHV Grid based on Optimization Techniques.
The thesis aims at reducing electrical losses resulting from long-distance transportation from northern to southern Iraq and decreasing production costs of electrical energy in generating stations.
The thesis, submitted by Ehsan Nimah Issa, includes a study of an effective approach using improved particle swarm algorithm to reduce transmission losses and generation costs in various overload cases. Control Department of Iraqi Ministry of Electricity is used to provide the researcher with technical data required for national grid to fully complete objectives of the thesis.
The thesis concludes that procedures used in Iraqi national electricity network could be adopted in future if network is expanded as planned, while it recommends operating national network at peak times according to proposed capacity paths during summer and winter seasons.
