College of Education for Humanities_ University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A thesis which is entitled “A Pragma-Stylistic Study of British Football Commentaries on FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022”.

Focusing on how commentators use language to engage audiences during live broadcasts, the study aims revealing pragmatic and stylistic features of British football commentaries on matches, Despite continuous expansion of football media, few studies have addressed how to combine stylistic and pragmatic features to create exaggerated and emotionally impactful commentary.
The study finds out that the analysis shows an advanced use of language that combines stylistic innovation and pragmatic strategy, and achieving a clear communicative goal: enhancing listener engagement. The results, at both micro and macro levels, also confirm that sports commentary is not limited to convey information, but rather is a dynamic performative discourse that transforms current events into emotionally charged narratives.
