University of Kerbala Discussing an M.A Thesis entitled A Pragmatic Study of Selected Ayatollah Al-Sistanis Guidance to Fighters Against ISIS

College of Humanities, University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A thesis which is entitled ” A Pragmatic Study of Selected Ayatollah Al-Sistanis Guidance to Fighters Against ISIS”.
The study deals with power of language in directives of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani to Fighters Against ISIS”.
Being submitted by Muhammad Abbas Shenishil, the study includes Al-Sistani’s directives from a communicative perspective and their influential power on fighters against ISIS.
The study aims at identifying positive courtesy strategies used by the speaker to build a relationship with fighters, revealing mechanism of applying negative courtesy to reduce their self-esteem, showing implicit meanings of their types and explaining their role in conveying the speaker’s intentions.
The thesis concludes that al-Sistani’s directives have a relative balance between occurrence of positive courtesy strategies such as comprehensive language, and negative courtesy that reflects the speaker’s efforts to build a spirit of friendship, recognize contributions of the audience, enhance unity and instill senses of integration or responsibility.
