College of Science – University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A thesis which is entitled ” A study of antibiotic resistance genes isolated from some pathogenic bacterial species and determination of the effect of bio-enhanced and partially characterized bacteria”.
The study, submitted by (Ghafran Kareem Abd) / Department of Biology investigates natural alternatives to combat pathogenic bacteria resistant to antibiotics.
The thesis includes isolation of four types of pathogenic bacteria, and lactic acid bacteria from natural milk and locally made dairy products, in addition to conduct diagnostic and molecular tests of them and testing antagonism of lactic acid bacteria against pathogenic bacteria.
The conclusions include detection of pathogenic bacteria carrying a number of genes encoding the resistance trait of antibiotics, in addition to inability of lactic acid bacteria to inhibit the studied pathogenic bacteria alone or their filtrate or synergistically between any two types.
The study recommends using types of synergistic mixtures between lactic acid bacteria inside living body and observes their biological transfer and isolates lactic acid bacteria from sources other than dairy such as pickles or soil. It also studies possibility of their biological effectiveness against pathogens or using other types of pathogenic bacteria.
