College of Medicine / University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A thesis which is entitled Estimation Levels of Coenzyme Q10 and Nuclear Factor erythrocyte- 2 related factor 2 (Nrf2) in Patients with type II Diabetes Mellitus”.
The study which has been presented by Haider Abdul Hussein Taher, examines estimation of Coenzyme Q10 and nuclear factor erythrocyte-associated factor 2 (Nrf2) levels in patients with type 2 diabetes and prediabetes.
The study conducts on 88 participants, including 50 patients and 32 healthy controls, at Imam Hassan Endocrinology and Diabetes Center and Imam Hassan Al-Mujtaba Teaching Hospital.
The results find out that blood levels of CoQ10 gradually decline with progression of metabolic disorders, making it an accurate biomarker for diagnosing diabetes and prediabetes. However, Nrf2 levels have not demonstrated similar diagnostic reliability.
The thesis confirms potential of CoQ10 as an effective non-invasive tool for early screening and monitoring of diabetes mellitus.
