University of Kerbala Discussing an M.A Thesis entitled Improving the Voltage Stability of a Weak Distribution Network using Renewable Energy Resource

College of Engineering / University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A thesis which is entitled “Improving the Voltage Stability of a Weak Distribution Network using Renewable Energy Resource” by Mohammed Qasim Majeed.
The study aims at improving the network’s performance and reliability by improving voltage stability and eliminating scheduled power outages by integrating distributed generation sources based on renewable and sustainable energy resources available in the region and its neighboring areas.
The study has been conducted on electricity distribution network of western region in Al-Qadisiyah Governorate in Iraq, where the network suffers from voltage deviations, energy losses, and scheduled power outages.
The results indicate that the proposed hybrid system generates power that is adaptable to changes in solar radiation and fluctuations in energy demand throughout the day. The results also showed that the proposed hybrid system improves the grid efficiency by reducing total active energy losses, total reactive energy losses, and voltage deviation index by 77%, 42%, and 87%, respectively. The Homer Pro tool was used to analyze economic feasibility. The results show satisfactory economic feasibility of the project.
