Faculty Education for Pure Sciences / University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A. which is entitled (Synthesis and Characterization of Zinc Sulfide Nanoparticles and its Application in Removal of Methylene blue Dye from its Aqueous Solutions). It is presented by (Ameer Qassim Abd Jawad).
The thesis aims at preparing and characterizing zinc sulfide nanocrystals using chemical precipitation and knowing ways to extract them from their aqueous solutions.
The thesis deals with the importance of manufacturing zinc sulfide nanoparticles with a semi-spherical shape by controlling the concentration of raw materials, the reaction time and the pH of the solution.
It also discusses measurement of energy gap from the spectrum of visible and ultraviolet radiation and it is found to be (3.8 electron-volts), dye methylene blue (MB) from the aqueous solution.
It shows how to prepare zinc sulfide nanoparticles using green methods. Parts of the broccoli plant are used as reducing agents and separating agents instead of using chemicals.
The study recommends necessity of studying linear and nonlinear optical properties of ZnS nanoparticles, and grafting them with some metals or semi-conducting materials to improve their optical properties and thus increase their ability to absorb various dyes.
