Faculty of Medicine / University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A. thesis which is prepared by (Banaz Saleh Ahmed) .
The study, which is entitled (Association of the Ferroptosis Process and the end Product of 4-Hydroxynonenal Fat Oxidation in the Context of Atherosclerosis in COVID-19 Patients), includes diagnosis, treatment, and prediction of clinical outcomes for patients.
The study aims at estimating levels of 4-hydroxynonenal and study its effect on the severity of the disease in those infected with the virus and to investigate how the SARS-CoV-2 virus affects lipid markers and evaluating whether HNE levels of COVID-19 patients can be used to predict the process of atherosclerosis, as well as measuring iron levels Ferritin and their roles in the process of Ferroptosis.
The study concludes that there is an increase in concentration of HNE and ferritin (an increase with a statistically significant difference) in both groups (severe and critical injuries) compared to healthy subjects. CRI-I, CRI-II) in severe COVID-19 cases, a very high significant increase compared to healthy subjects.
