University of Kerbala Discussing an M.A Thesis on Evaluation of Maximum Bearing Capacity of Surface Foundations based on Granular Soil

Faculty of Engineering / University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A thesis which is entitled evaluation of bearing capacity of foundations based on granular soil reinforced with geogrid based on simulation of shallow footing and on three forms of surface foundations and through three variables: depth, size and numbers of reinforcement layers.
The study, presented by Murtadha Saleem Hussein, aims at improving soil properties through bearing capacity and settlement of soil based on several factors, including bearing capacity ratio settlement reduction ratio and improvement factor.
The thesis includes working to increase workability of the most common soil in city of Karbala by conducting a series of loading tests on it.
The study finds out a clear improvement in increasing bearing capacity of soil under surface foundations when reinforced with geogrid polymer layers through specified factors, while it recommends the necessity of using layers of polymer mesh with soil layers that increases its properties as an alternative to many other methods used to enhance bearing capacity of soil under surface foundations.
