University of Kerbala Discussing an M.A. Thesis on “Evaluation of SMAD2 and SMAD3 and their Relationship to Transforming Growth Factor”

Faculty of Medicine – University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A. thesis considering diabetes, as a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion or insulin action or both.
The thesis is entitled (Evaluation of SMAD3 & SMAD2 and their relationship to transforming growth factor in type 2 diabetic patients with early and chronic diabetic nephropathy). It is prepared by Hussein Saeed Abbas. It aims at determining the role of SMAD2 and SMAD3 and their relationship with TGF-β in type 2 diabetic patients with of early and chronic diabetic nephropathy in a sample of Iraqi population.
The study shows the importance of these markers in pathogenesis of DN which is supported by their association with albuminuria, high specificity and sensitivity by ROC analysis, and thus the possibility of their use as biochemical markers in DN has been suggested.
