University of Kerbala Discussing an M.A. Thesis on “The Importance of Classifying and Evaluating Urban Roadways”

Faculty of Engineering – University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A. thesis which is entitled “Evaluation and Classification of Urban Roadways in Holy city of Karbala”. It is prepared by Duaa Falah Rasoul.
The study aims at classifying urban roads on basis of free flow velocity that is measured using a speed radar device in first stage, and evaluate urban roads by evaluating the level of lateral friction in second stage. The third stage is the evaluation of the road network using several indicators of Karbala, which are the alpha, beta and gamma tree models and network tree.
The study concludes that the network is poorly connected according to alpha index, beta index gamma index, and indicates the presence of crowded streets. While some urban road sections are found to have good service levels.
