Faculty of Medicine, University of Kerbala, has discussed the thesis which is entitled “expression status of TFF3 in prostate cancer in a group of Iraqi patients.”
The research submitted by Heba Moayad Al-Yasiri, is concerned with pathological tissue, and it is part of requirements of obtaining a board certificate in pathology.
The aim of the study is evaluating expression of TFF3 factor in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia and carcinoma, and correlate it with histological differentiation, perineural invasion, lymphatic vessels, and some clinical variables, and confirming the importance of its use as a diagnostic marker for prostate cancer.
The study concludes that expression of TFF3 factor increased with the increase in degree of differentiation of prostate cancer and level of PSA, which confirms the possibility of using it as a diagnostic marker for prostate cancer.
It is also found out that expression of TFF3 factor in cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia could be a pre-event for development of prostate cancer, while the study recommends a large clinical study to prove or deny this hypothesis, as well as provides more clinical information for the study regarding the stage and size of the tumor.
