College of Science, University of Kerbala organizes a scientific training course on laboratory chromatography techniques, specifically thin-layer chromatography (TLC), and retention factors (RF) in organic chemical compounds.
The course aims at focusing on TLC as an important technique of separating non-volatile organic compounds, explaining its mechanisms and its role in separating components of mixtures based on differences in speed of their movement.
The course also deals with methods of detecting separated compounds using ultraviolet radiation or chemical reagents, the importance of selecting appropriate phases of accurate results, and an explanation of the concept of Rf value, its calculation, and role in identifying compounds, determining their purity, and monitoring progress of chemical reactions.
