University of Kerbala Holds its Second Karbala Scholars Conference

Being a significant scientific milestone reflecting a will to utilize knowledge to serve reality, President of the University, Prof. Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali attends the opening session of the second Karbala scholars conference, which has been organized by Karbala local government in cooperation with University of Kerbala, Al-Ukhaidir Fortress. The conference includes participation of prominent scientific and academic figures from Iraqi public and private universities.
The university president states that this conference represents a significant scientific milestone reflecting a vital will to utilize knowledge in reality. He emphasizes that this event embodies a profound awareness of challenges facing Karbala Governorate, given its distinguished religious and cultural significance, alongside rapid economic, social, and urban transformations it is undergoing.
Prof. Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali explains that the conference is a direct response to a number of challenges facing development process. He points out that the current stage requires a shift from theoretical diagnosis to practical solutions based on rigorous scientific research, which can be translated into actionable policies that respect Karbala unique characteristics , preserve its identity and meet demands of modern era.
The conference aims to provide a comprehensive applied knowledge framework that enables decision-makers in local government, along with academic and executive institutions, to utilize results of research and studies in formulating realistic development policies capable of addressing problems, maximizing opportunities, and achieving a balance between constants and variables.
For his part, the Governor of Karbala, Eng. Nassif Jassim Al-Khattabi, adds that the conference represents a message of moving from theoretical realm to practical application of scientific research and utilizing it in agricultural, industrial, and developmental sectors. He notes that Karbala Governorate is currently experiencing stability in security, development, and strategic planning.
The conference addresses three main themes reflecting priorities of the current phase. Legal and economic axis focuses on maximizing local revenues through a review of legislative frameworks and an analysis of income sources. The social theme addresses sensitive issues affecting societal stability, such as divorce and cyber extortion. The last theme concentrates on identity of Karbala and the need to balance the religious identity with demands of urban development, given increasing urban expansion and population pressure.
