Abstract:
Beginning of Commonwealth belongs to the seventeenth century when Oliver Cromwell changed the rule from Monarchy to republic represented by executing king Charles the first and came into power with the ‘guard’ name and announce the commonwealth. After his death, his son Richard resigned from his position; so, monarchy returned to England when Charles the second came into power. So, its appearance was through many forms, for it had multiple forms in the government along history.
Based on this, the tOpic’ British Commonwealth of Nations (1931-1980): A Historical Study’ was chosen for the study. The study was divided into four chapters. The first chapter states the meaning of Commonwealth linguistically and terminologically, definitions that clarified it along history through encyclOpedias, dictionaries by Arabic and English.
The chapter also discussed its concept, the changes that occurred in its structure and the prOperties and aims recognizes it and have to be carried out, it was given a remarkable prestige by devoting special day and slogan to it.
The second chapter mentioned the most important international conferences which were considered as the legislative council in its beginning for it lacks to a testament or a constitution that it restricts with it as well the meetings of Commonwealth presidents and prime ministers which was a way for communication and consultant among the members in issues relating to the members states. It is informal and the members are not obliged to carry out its resolutions, but the states abided the relations due to their members’ benefit.
The third chapter, firstly included the established states of the organization and secondly the states that affiliated to it; later in a table form, and finally included a number of advertisements the Commonwealth issued.
The fourth chapter is divided into two parts. The first part mentioned the basic organizations that the association depends on in its work. The other part is the branch organizations and the organizations that connected with Commonwealth that had great role in widening its distance and spreading English language.
The study concluded some point as the following. Commonwealth is the political, economic, and social gathering works to form a multi-axes community and to spread English through learning by establishing schools in all member states, as well the scientific houses that were devoted for the married students to bring their families and Opening schools for their children when English will be as its basic method. This is in addition to establishing organization that highly helped in that spreading.
