The present thesis deals with a significant topic in Arabic thought, that is, Choice, especially poetic one. Since choice is an act of the choosing self in its interaction with texts, thus this recipient personality will have the status it deserves in the history of Arabic literature, paying due attention to the reading and critical efforts it will perform on these texts, then choosing according to reasons related to the intellectual, artistic and aesthetic values reflected by these texts.
In my study, I chose one of the biographies that appeared in the eleventh century AH to study it and learn about its secrets, rules, and method of selection so that I could benefit from the scientific benefits in this field of study. Due to the nature of the study, it was divided into three chapters, preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion and a list of sources and references.
The introduction was entitled “The Political, Social, and Literary Aspects of the Era of Al-Baghdadi.” The first chapter, entitled “The Author and His Book,” focused on the author’s life, the writer’s approach to the book, and the most important sources he relied on. The first chapter consisted of three sections: the first dealt with the author’s life, while the first chapter dealt with The second is his approach to choosing translations and the third is his sources.
ln the second chapter, I studied the choices and the foundations of choice adopted by the author, and they were based on two topics: thematic choice, and the temporal and spatial choice. The third chapter was concerned with studying the artistic foundations of the choices, and they were based on three topics: words and structures, the artistic image, and music. This was followed by the most prominent results reached by the research. It is followed by a list of the most important sources and references that informed the study.
