An M.A. Thesis at the University of Kerbala Discussing the Explanatory Research on the Imamate in Orientalist Studies The Faculty of Islamic Sciences – University of Kerbala has discussed a dissertation entitled “The Explanatory Research on the Imamate in Orientalist Studies : Critical Study”. The dissertation, presented by the student Ali Shaker Salman Al-Aridi, aims at achieving two purposes, one of them is to accurately reveal the features of this important topic, and the second one is to be a suggestion for further studies so as to develop the studies on the topic. In his dissertation, the student addresses the descriptive approach to present and discuss the views of orientalists, as well as the critical approach, which is the main curriculum in the study. He indicates that there are attempts to distort the image of Islam in general and the Imamate, especially in the eyes of Western society, and its purpose is to prevent the Islamic tide at the expense of Christianity. Therefore, the orientalists have resorted to transmit false and distorted information in the minds of the Western individual. The researcher ends his study with the conclusion which states that the strength of the Imamate school of thought, whereby it has imposed itself on the scientific arena despite the attempts of absenteeism it has been exposed to.
