University of Kerbala Discussing an M.A Thesis entitled Control of Cotton Mealybugs Phenacoccus solenopsis Using NGS Technology and Integrated Methods

College of Agriculture, University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A thesis which is entitled “Control of Cotton Mealybugs Phenacoccus solenopsis Using NGS Technology and Integrated Methods” generation sequencing (NGS) technology on ornamental plants in some nurseries in Karbala Governorate, and ways to control it using biological and non-biological methods.
To be submitted by Ahmed Hassan Khadir Abu Sakhr, the study is divided into five chapters, as it focuses on a comprehensive study of the insect and parasites that accompany it, in addition to review some integrated methods for controlling it.
The thesis aims at conducting a comprehensive survey of cotton mealybug on ornamental plants in some gardens and nurseries in Karbala Governorate. It also identifies the most important plant families that the insect prefers and evaluate its food preference.

The study stressed the importance of field survey and accurate diagnosis of the cotton mealybug and its associated parasites, indicating the possibility of developing effective control strategies through integration between biological and non-biological means.
