A number of students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Kerbala residing in the veterinary clinic in Al-Husayniyah district successfully have operated on a cow with an umbilical hernia in one of the cattle breeding fields in the district.
Dr. Abbas Khudair says that the operation has been performed successfully, explaining that the steps of the operation have to starve the animal for 12 hours, then shave the site of the operation, wash the area with soap and water, and sterilize it with alcohol, tie the visible veins under the skin, and give the lidocaine 2% by the local infiltration method to be done after this opened the layer of skin and subcutaneous tissues in the form of a crescent, as the hernia area was close to the male genital organ and continued that the subcutaneous tissue layer was also separated from around the hernia with blunt resection until the hernia ring appeared in all directions and the edges of the hernia ring were renewed and then sew it in a (SIMPLE HORIZONTAL MATTRESS SUTURE) method by the (CUTGUT) thread, and then sew a second row to the same loop in the (SIMPLE INTERRUOTED SUTURE) method by the (CUTGUT) thread
And giving the necessary antibiotics locally and systemically.
He points out that the breeder has been directed to take care of the animal by reducing its movement and not giving the animal green fodder in large quantities to avoid pressure on the operation area.
