The University of Kerbala organises a national conference on moderation to promote Peaceful coexistence
The Centre for Strategic Studies at the University of Karbala held a national conference on moderation and its role in the civilizational progress to promote peaceful coexistence after the ISIS stage.
The conference, which was held under the slogan “Religious and political moderation, our path to civil peace and civilizational progress”, aims to establish as well as clarify the importance of moderation in religion and politics to build a contemporary civil state, defame extremism and violence, show the falsity of the movements that adopt this deviant approach, remove the charge of extremism and violence from the Islamic religion, which some are trying to associate with, and promote peaceful coexistence to achieve national reconciliation in Iraq.
The conference discussed moderation as an approach to education and its role in international relations and national reconciliation. Furthermore, the conference elucidated the political philosophy of moderation and its role in the building of a modern civil state.
For his part, Prof. Dr. Munir Hamid Saadi, chancellor of Karbala University, said that this conference has great importance to strengthen the line of moderation, prevent extremists from seizing our present, as well as defend the image of Islam, which has been abused by terrorism and extremism.
80 papers were submitted to the conference to provide advice for this important stage in the history of Iraq in order to establish a culture of dialogue as well as moderation, and to build a society based on peace, coexistence, interdependence, and renunciation of violence.
Sheikh Qutaiba Saadi Mahdi, the representative of the Sunni Endowment, said that this conference carries important content that is much needed by society to address extremist ideas. He also emphasised the need for such a conference to contest the ideas that are aimed at impairing the unity of Iraq.
Ibtisam al-Hilali, a member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, said that the convening of this conference coincided with the victories achieved by the Popular Mobilization Forces and the Iraqi army. Moreover, a conference of this scale is important in addressing one of the most important stages in Iraqi history. She also praised the conference for its intention to unite all beliefs in order to build a new society, as such efforts will work to eliminate sectarianism in Iraq and create a kind of harmony and unity and moderation among its people.
