College of Education for Pure Sciences _ University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A thesis which is entitled ” Investigating of Production of Cephalosporins Antibiotics and Testing their Antibacterial Activity”
Being submitted by Sara Emad Rasool, the study aims at examining bacterial isolates to determine their ability to produce a compound similar to Cephalosporins and to explore soil microorganisms that produce cephalosporin compounds. It also aims at isolating and identifying bacteria from soil contaminated with oil and salts.
The thesis demonstrates that Iraqi soil is a rich source of productive bacterial strains. The antibiotic produced also shows a broad-spectrum activity, and the of pyrazine and thiophene structures supports the hypothesis that the compounds possess activity similar to cefixime.
It is recommended that other types of bacteria and fungi that produce cephalosporin isolated from the soil, and that the effect of it is isolated from bacteria against fungi be studied, in addition to conduct liquid chromatography analyses coupled with mass spectrometry or nuclear magnetic resonance to confirm the chemical structure of the compound.
