College of Science, University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A thesis which is entitled “Synthesis and Characterization of silica- metal nanocomposites via sol-gel Method”.
The study, which is submitted by Khdiaer Rasheed Kitab, includes synthesis of a sodium silicate solution from rice husks, and preparation of nickel and copper nanocomposites using sol-gel method, then characterization of these compounds using several techniques, and testing their biological effectiveness against E. coli and S. aureus.
The results show that nanocomposites prepared from rice husks with nickel and copper have a high ability to inhibit growth of bacteria under study.
The study recommends necessity of using nanocomposites extracted from rice husks in industrial fields as catalysts and in organic reactions.
