To provide a healthy environment, College of Education for Humanities- University of Kerbala, has discussed the M.A. Thesis which is entitled” The Role of Green Belts to combat Desertification in Karbala”. It has been submitted by Nasreen Abdul Ameer Hadi.
The thesis aims at highlighting the role of green belt project as a strategic step to reduce sand encroachment, improving local climate, increase vegetation cover on outskirts of the city, and reinforce the importance of this project in enhancing environmental security, preserving natural resources, and introducing operational treatment units.
The study includes an explanation of stages of implementing of this project, selecting suitable sites for agriculture, and planting climate-resistant plant species, along with the use of modern irrigation techniques that rely on treated groundwater.
The thesis finds out that local environmental solutions can address climate challenges through continued technical and financial support. It also emphasizes the need to expand the project with an additional 15% of support to ensure its sustainability. added to that. it requires enhancing cooperation between official bodies, local community, and environmental organizations.
