University of Kerbala Discussing an M.A Thesis in English

Faculty of Education for Human Sciences/ University of Kerbala has discussed The M.A thesis which is entitled entitled (A Discourse Analysis Gender Differences in Selected American Novels). It has been presented by (Marwa Abdel-Amir Ashour).
The current study aims at finding out whether male and female speakers in the two novels adopt similar or different strategies in each of politeness, briefing and apology, and clarifying the dominant linguistic strategy used by the main characters in their speech, and checking whether the writer’s gender has an effect on the language of the main characters.
This study has a number of findings,, the most important ones are: 1- The speech of the four main characters in the two selected novels adopts positive face style as a form of politeness methods. 2- In “Our Souls in the Night,” bearing the responsibility was for the controlling strategies for apology, while IFIDs) are The most common strategy for apology in “Ends Us” 3- Conditional auxiliary verbs are the most hedging methods used by both men and women in the two novels, 4- There are no fundamental differences between males and females in the use of the main strategies in the use of the two novels.
