College of Pharmacy, University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A thesis which is entitled “the effect of genetic variants on treatment response of hypothyroidism patients”.
To be presented by Nabaa Zuhair Miran, the study aims at evaluating the effects of certain genetic variants in thyroid receptor gene (TRα1), as well as to demonstrate effectiveness of treatment with certain types of hormones in a sample of Iraqi women with hypothyroidism.
The study also highlights a statistical correlation between the studied genetic variants and thyroid hormone levels, indicating possibility of using genetic analysis as a supportive tool to personalize treatment and improve outcomes for patients. The thesis recommends adoption of personalized treatment strategies in management of hypothyroidism, based on patients’ genetic background.
