University of Kerbala Discussing an M.A Thesis on Investigating Enzymatic Substitution Reactions between phosphatidyl Derivatives and Alcohols

Faculty of Science/University of Kerbala University has discussed the M.A thesis which is entitled “Investigating Enzymatic Substitution Reactions between phosphatidyl Derivatives and Alcohols”.
The thesis, submitted by Ekram Salem, aims at comparing hydrolysis reactions of phosphatidylcholine in acidic media in presence of water and ethanol as a solvent and following kinetics of two reactions, hydrolysis and substitution
The thesis concludes that there is an effect of solvent on mechanical by-products of the reaction, and that difference in nitrogenous bases associated with phosphate groups of the two fat derivatives leads to a difference in the reaction conditions.
The thesis recommends applying this study to blood samples of alcoholics and monitoring the effect of alcohol on cell membrane components, in addition to study harmful concentration of ethanol that leads to damage liver cells.
