Faculty of Administration and Economics / University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A. thesis which is entitled “latest trends of partnership between public and private sectors – experiences of selected countries with possibility of benefiting from them in Iraq”.
The study, presented by Hassan Abdel-Amir Hassan Al-Saadi aims at identifying recent trends in field of partnership between public and private sectors in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, with possibility of benefiting from them in Iraq, especially in light of similarities between economies of the two countries and Iraqi economy, which relies heavily on oil.
The study concludes that partnership between public and private sectors provides an important way to increase volume of investments through entry of private sector in implementation of projects, in addition to being an important tool in providing financial resources for implementation of infrastructure projects and strategic projects and providing the best services at lowest costs.
The thesis recommends the need of Iraq to benefit from experiences of the sample countries and make room for private sector in order to contribute to development of Iraqi economy and increase its contribution to gross domestic product, and the need to approve partnership law in order to attract discreet international companies and establish partnerships with them. The study also highlights the need to make partnership an entry point essential and a major option for achieving economic reform and a gradual transition towards a diversified economy that does not depend solely on oil.
