A master’s thesis at the College of Science at the University of Karbala discussed the molecular diagnosis of two species of Physalis spp introduced into Iraq based on Variation in Chloroplast DNA (cpDNA).
The study, presented by Ahmed Saghir Jalab, aims at documenting and knowing evolutionary relationship of two species of genus “Physalis spp” introduced into Iraq using molecular indicators based on differences in sequence of cpDNA region and examining active compounds using GC MAS technology, as well as identifying some Biological effectiveness of plant extract such as antioxidant and antibacterial.
The study includes molecular diagnosis of two types of Physalis spp introduced into Iraq, based on conservative areas such as chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) sequence and ribosomal DNA (nrDNA) sequence.
The study concludes a molecular diagnosis of two species of genus Physalis spp, registered two species, and obtained a serial number for each sample in collection bank, as well as confirming effectiveness of Physalis angulate plant extracts, which contributed to hind formation of biofilms.
The thesis recommends the need to use phenolic extract synergistically with nanocomposites as antibacterial and antifungal, and stustudying effect of Physalis spp extracts on gene expression in a number of genes and in other types of bacteria and fungi, and to conduct a study to purify active compounds from Physalis angulate, such as phenols that have an inhibitory effect on Bacteria.
