University of Kerbala Discussing an M.A Thesis on Preparation of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles

Faculty of Science /University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A. thesis which is entitled “preparation and characterization of iron oxide nanoparticles and their use in the removal of some water contaminants “.

The thesis, presented by Hussein Mahawish Mohammed, includes preparation of iron nanoparticles with and without the use of a surfactant and its application in the removal of eosin yellow dye as a water contaminant.
The aim of the thesis is preparing nanostructures of magnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4) as a catalyst and studying the effect of using positive, negative and neutral surfactants on preparation methods, as well as studying properties of the prepared nanostructures using FTIR spectroscopy.
The thesis recommends the preparation of iron oxide nanoparticles using environmentally friendly methods, being less expensive and non-toxic, bonding the nanoparticles with other surfactants, and characterizing the prepared surfaces using other techniques such as atomic force microscopy (AFM).
