University of Kerbala Organizes a “Green Day” Festival

 

To raise awareness of the importance of agricultural sustainability, College of Agriculture_ University of Kerbala organizes its 6th event of “Green Day” festival.

Annually, the Festival has been attended by a number of government and private departments, directorates, and institutions concerned with agriculture in Karbala Governorate.
President of University of Kerbala, Prof. Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali, states that agricultural development seeks to improve agricultural production, protect the environment, achieve food security, and address challenges related to population growth and climate change. He emphasizes the importance of achieving sustainable development that preserves natural resources and biodiversity, reduces pollution, and provides job opportunities.

For his part, Governor of Karbala, Eng. Nassif Al-Khattabi, explains that these activities contribute to preserve the environment, reduce carbon emissions, and maintain community health. He adds that this will provide international rewards provided by international development institutions  that work to reduce carbon emissions in accordance with international agreements.
Dean of the College, Dr. Ali Abdul-Hussein remarks that the festival is the result of climate change conditions. It aims at raising community awareness of agricultural sustainability, and environmental conservation and care.
