Faculty of Science / University of Kerbala, in cooperation with Karbala Environment Directorate, has organized a scientific symposium on climate change and its impact on environment, with participation of researchers and specialists in field of environment.
The symposium aim at raising awareness, defining environmental situation in Iraq, explaining climate changes and the importance of protecting the environment.
The symposium includes introducing participants to natural climatic changes as well as those produced by human intervention, directly or indirectly, and the resulting effects.
The symposium reviewes problem of water and its relationship to climate change, pattern of rainfall distribution, saturation of the seas with carbon, which led to a decrease in water level, and human interventions represented in building dams on Euphrates and Tigris rivers outside Iraq, as well as international report on this matter.
The researchers provide statistics on average per capita consumption of water per day, while they call for enactment of laws to preserve environment and development of educational curricula that focus on caring for the environment and protecting it from tampering.
