Abstract
This dissertation examines the concept of social responsibility in the Holy Quran in terms of its foundations, dimensions, regulations, and conditions, in addition to studying its various applications. The study aims to analyze the relevant Quran verses and clarify the impact of adhering to this responsibility in building a cohesive and stable society. The introductory chapter, “The Conceptual Framework and Historical Development of Social Responsibility,” reviews the fundamental concepts related to the topic, discussing: the definition of social responsibility both linguistically and terminologically based on linguistic and religious sources, the Quran framework of social responsibility by outlining the Quran principles that govern this concept, and the historical trajectory of social responsibility, tracing its development across different civilizations with a particular focus on the Islamic experience. The first chapter, “The Dialectic of the Individual and Society: Dimensions and Regulations,” explores various aspects of social responsibility, including: the primacy of the individual or society, the social dimensions—spiritual, ethical, and universal—and the Quran regulations of social responsibility, such as adherence to justice, along with religious, moral, customary, and legal guidelines. The second chapter discusses “Origins, Pillars, and Conditions,” focusing on the foundations upon which social responsibility in the Quran is built. This includes: the Quran origins of social responsibility, such as reason, human nature (fitrah), and religion. The chapter also identifies the pillars of social responsibility: the inquirer, the responsible party, and the subject of responsibility, while clarifying the necessary conditions for achieving social responsibility. The third chapter addresses “Applications of Social Responsibility in the Holy Quran and Its Impact on Building Islamic Society.” The findings and recommendations emphasize that social responsibility in the Quran is not merely an ethical principle but a divine legislation aimed at achieving balance and stability in society. Adhering to Quran principles of social responsibility contributes to reducing class disparities, achieving justice, and fostering sustainable development. It is crucial to reinforce Quran values of social responsibility in educational curricula and religious discourse, and there is an urgent need to activate legislation inspired by the Quran to promote social solidarity and combat negative phenomena in contemporary societies. The conclusion reaffirms that social responsibility, as presented in the Quran, constitutes a comprehensive approach to building a just and balanced society. Its application in contemporary reality can significantly contribute to achieving development and social stability.
