Abstract
Imagination is one of the means of producing meaning, in addition to being a form of formation and a stylistic procedure in the poet’s performance. In this study, we have chosen to address a poetic text centered around a figure of great importance in Islamic history and in the consciousness of Muslims alike: Imam Ali, as depicted by poets in the collection of Shiite poetry edited by the late Tunisian professor Tayeb Al-Ashaash.
The nature of this topic required that we make an introduction and three chapters for it, The introduction was concerned with defining the photographer (Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (peace be upon him)), and with defining the significance of the image and describing the poetic text in which it appeared. As for the chapters of the study, they dealt with all the pillars of the formation of the image in the literary work with its components, expressive values and multiple functions, Therefore, the first chapter was concerned with clarifying what is related to the components of the image of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) and the motives for its formation: (Psychological), religious, social, and political, The second chapter took it upon itself to study the expressive values of the image, simile, metaphor, and metonymy, while the third chapter was interested in studying the functions of the aesthetic and argumentative image and its role in attracting the mind and heart of the recipient, This study concluded with a group of results, including: The character of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) was formed, With its religious and human dimension, and its presence in the Islamic conscience, it was a motivating factor for poets of his time and in later eras, They drew a picture of it that took into consideration, its realistic dimension added to it an imaginative dimension, The motives for this picture were many: psychological, religious, social and political, The graphic expression was the clearest manifestation of this picture aesthetically, While its most prominent functions were aesthetic and argumentative, we find its deep echo in such types of poetry that emerged in an environment of doctrinal difference.
