The Phenomenon of The extravagance in the Holy Qur’an An Interpretation Study

Abstract

This study, entitled “The Phenomenon of Gentleness in the Holy Qur’an – An Exegetical Study”, highlights the significant importance of understanding gentleness in the Qur’an and its profound impact on softening hearts, refining discourse, and delivering ideas in a manner that is accepted by the addressee without aversion. This research constitutes a substantial contribution to comprehending Qur’anic inimitability as well as the pedagogical and missionary dimensions of the Qur’anic text.
The study approaches the concept of gentleness in the Qur’an from an exegetical perspective, unveiling deep dimensions related to guidance, education, and da‘wah. It seeks to establish that gentleness in the Qur’an is not merely a rhetorical technique but rather a deliberate textual phenomenon carrying profound legislative, educational, and missionary implications.
Methodologically, the research is built upon exegetical and rhetorical analysis of Qur’anic texts and is structured into an introduction and four chapters. The first chapter is dedicated to establishing the theoretical foundations of the study and exploring points of convergence and divergence with other related concepts. The second chapter examines the motives behind the Qur’an’s use of gentleness, followed by the third chapter, which identifies the main styles of gentleness in the Qur’an, represented by paradox, gradual persuasion, and argumentation. The fourth chapter provides an applied analysis of the exegetical implications of gentleness within Qur’anic narratives, doctrinal verses, and legal rulings.
The study concludes with several significant findings, foremost among them that gentleness in the Qur’an is not simply a matter of eloquent expression; rather, it is a divine pedagogical and missionary strategy that enhances the depth of understanding and acceptance of the Qur’anic message. Furthermore, the phenomenon reflects an embedded hermeneutical dimension within the very structure of the Qur’anic text, contributing simultaneously to its educational, invitational, and epistemological impact.
