Values of Citizenship & its Relationship with the Social Coherence and Intellectual Security of Preparatory Stage Students

   The Present study entitled ” The Values of  Citizenship and  its Relationship with  Social  Coherence  and Intellectual Security of the Secondary Stage Students ” gains its significance  through connecting these values  . To the best of the researcher’s  knowledge , it is an  unprecedented attempt in this field of  studies. It is well-known that the  absence  of social coherence is considered one of the most serious social problems which results in deconstructing the society and demolishing the basic structures upon which a society is built , i.e.  values of society , costumes , traditions , and moral norms . Also, the importance of the present study springs from the fact that it deals with a crucial stage of students’ life , that is , the preparatory stage which is characterized by quick , interrelated changes , in addition to the stressful circumstances from which the Iraqi people suffer .

  The present study aims at :

1. Measuring the values of citizenship of preparatory stage students.        2. Getting to know the differences of statistical significance related               to the values of citizenship of students of Fifth year preparatory                   stage according to the variables of gender  ( male / female ) and   specialization ( literary / scientific ) .
2. Measuring the degree of social coherence of preparatory stage students.
3. Shedding  light on the differences of statistical significance  related          to the values of social coherence of students of Fifth year preparatory       stage according to the variables of gender (male / female ) and specialization ( literary / scientific ) .
4. Measuring the degree of intellectual security of preparatory stage students .
5. Getting to know the differences of statistical significance of students of Fifth preparatory stage according to the variables of gender ( male / female ) and specialization ( literary / scientific ) .
6. Investigating the relationship between the values of citizenship ,           social coherence , and intellectual security of preparatory stage students .

    The present study is limited to the students of  the preparatory stage  within the city of  Kut , the academic year 2012 / 2013 . To achieve the aims of the study , two scales have been built to measure the values of     citizenship with ( 72) items ;  the scale of intellectual security contains        (36 ) items ; while the researcher has adopted the scale of Sabri (2006) to measure the values of social coherence .  Each scale has both face            validity , construct validity  , logical validity and reliability .

       The results of the present study were the  following :

1. The sample of the study has been rich with high levels of values citizenship , social coherence , and intellectual security .
2. No differences of significant values were found in view of sex or the academic specialization  related to the variables studied , except for the variable of social coherence which was of high significant difference with relation to the variable of academic specialization .

     3. There has been found a strong relationship and sometimes statistically significant among     the variables of the study

    4. It has been found that the change in level of values of citizenship affects the levels of intellectual security and social coherence  with the percentages ( 28% ) and ( 38% ) respectively .
