A research team from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Kerbala has obtained a patent from the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control to enable them to “design and manufacture smart crutches for the blind and the elderly”,
The research team consist of Dr. Haider Ismail Shahadi and Dr. Ali Abdul Razzaq Abbas Al-Taher and the participation of a group of students from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering,
The patent aims at providing a number of important services to alert the blind, discover objects on their way from a distance, and the ability to follow up and monitor the blind by their relatives in the event they remain on their way or request immediate distress,
The patent includes two parts, the first is useful for the visually impaired and the blind, as it identifies people who are close to the person and alerts based on the existing distance through sound alerts and vibration of the wrist, and the second part includes a number of services provided by the system, namely ambulance contact and user contact as an automatic service and automatic communication of modern technical features without the need to provide Internet systems linked to the smart system, ease of use and cheap price.
