UNESCO Representative to Iraq, praises the e-learning procedures and MOHESR’s response to the COVID-19 crisis

Mr. Paolo Fontani, Representative, UNESCO Iraq Office, praised the e-learning procedures at Iraqi universities and the speedy response of the Ministry of Higher Education to the educational requirements due to the global health crisis.

The participants in the online meeting included the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, H.E. Dr. Nabil Kazem Abdel-Sahib, Mr. Paolo Fontani, Director and Representative, UNESCO Iraq office and the Director of the Research and Development Department, Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majeed, as well as representatives from UNESCO, MoHESR and Iraqi universities.

Mr. Paolo Fontani stressed that UNESCO is committed to supporting the new education strategy for Iraq and assist if needed in the development of e-learning platform for higher education.

In turn, H.E. Dr. Nabil Kazem Abdel-Sahib, affirmed that the Ministry is moving forward with its plan in joint work programs with international universities, emphasizing that Iraqi academic institutions possess expertise in various scientific disciplines that would enhance partnership with UNESCO and provide training and cooperation.
