University of Kerbala Discussing an M.A Thesis entitled “Bullying in Children’s Literature”.

Faculty of Education for Human Sciences /University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A. thesis which is entitled ( A Pragma – Stylistic Study of Bullying in Children’s Literature). It is prepared by (Athra Hussein Yasser).
The study aims at identifying types and purposes of bullying committed by characters in the sample used, clarifying the most and least verbal acts used by bullies, victims and narrators in selected stories, and shedding light on types of rhetorical metaphors used by the characters in children’s stories.
The study deals with bullying as an important social aspect in four selected American short stories for children, and that writing children’s stories is not only done to entertain readers, but also to deliver moral, cultural, religious and educational messages, and bullying is common as a social phenomenon on a large scale among children, especially for those of school age, Accordingly, the need to increase children’s awareness of the social impact of this phenomenon increases.
The conclusions of the study shows that most prevalent type of bullying is the direct emotional type whose main function is to obtain power and control, and it is possible that children may lack the capabilities necessary to engage in direct bullying..
