College of Medicine / University of Kerbala has discussed the M.A thesis which is entitled ” Identify the Role of Proximal and Distal tubular Damage makers in adults Cystic kidney Disease”.
The study, submitted by Ayat Khader Ali Obaid, aims at estimating level of biomarkers KIM-1 and CHI3L1 and inflammatory markers NGAL in patients with hereditary dominant polycystic kidney disease and studying progression of the disease through ROC analysis to evaluate changes in KIM1 and CHI3L1, and NGAL modified for eGFR.
The study concludes that KIM-1, NGAL and htTKV are key markers for monitoring kidney function decline in patients with hereditary dominant polycystic kidney disease. The study also concludes that NGAL provides better sensitivity, while KIM-1 has higher specificity for predicting progression of chronic kidney disease, but both KIM-1 and NGAL are less effective in diagnosing early stage chronic kidney disease.
