Faculty of Medicine /University of Kerbala has organized a scientific symposium on addiction and its impacts on individual and family , with participation of a number of professors, specialists, employees and doctors from Health Department.
The symposium deals with risk factors that make the individual vulnerable to be a victim of trap addiction, the most important of which is insecure attachment that results from weak family ties, especially in childhood and early years. Likewise, the nature of addiction and conditions of achieving it are identified, regardless of its authentication, which could be chemicals such as heroin and cocaine, smoking and alcohol, or addiction to behavior such as shopping, video games, and gambling.
The symposium emphasizs the need to allocate a section in Strategic Studies Center at our university for qualitative and quantitative (mixed) research, as well as surveys for early detection and education on everything related to this subject, and approaching Ministry of Health to expedite establishment of treatment and rehabilitation centers of drug abusers who wish to treat addiction, as is the case in Basra Governorate, and allocating Amounts of money to encourage research and work in this field, in addition to print folders and banners that can raise awareness of size of this problem.
